Driven by Innovation, Fueled by Passion
UTS Motorsports is the University of Technology Sydney's Formula SAE team, designing, manufacturing, testing, and racing a high-performance single-seater electric race car for competition at Formula SAE Australasia (FSAE-A). As part of the world's largest student engineering competition, the team competes annually across a range of static and dynamic events that challenge engineering innovation, business acumen, and vehicle performance.
Founded in 1999, UTS Motorsports originally competed in the internal combustion category before transitioning to electric vehicle development in 2015. Today, the team continues to innovate at the forefront of student-led engineering while preparing members for the future of mobility.
Formula SAE challenges university students to conceive, design, manufacture, develop, and compete with a formula-style race car. Success requires more than building a fast vehicle; teams must balance performance, reliability, safety, cost, manufacturability, maintainability, ergonomics, and aesthetics while demonstrating excellence in engineering and project management.
With more than 70 students from engineering, business, design, science, information technology, and communication disciplines, UTS Motorsports operates as a multidisciplinary engineering program. Members are responsible for every stage of vehicle development, from design and manufacturing to testing, sponsorship, marketing, and competition operations.
Supported by the UTS Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, the team provides students with hands-on experience in a professional environment that mirrors industry practice. Through innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, UTS Motorsports develops the next generation of engineers, leaders, and problem-solvers while proudly representing UTS on the national stage.
