UTS: Motorsports Electric represents the University of Technology, Sydney in the Formula SAE Australasia (FSAE-A) competition. As part of FSAE-A, each year we design and manufacture an open-wheeled formula style racecar, competing in time-trial style events against teams of students from around the world. Formed in 1999 as UTS Motorsports, our team first competed in 2001. After several years of designing and manufacturing petrol combustion vehicles, in 2014 our team made the decision to move into the electric category of FSAE-A . In 2015 we manufactured and competed in our first ever electric vehicle. In 2017, our team gained it’s greatest achievement to date; placing 2nd overall in EV class, 1st in the efficiency, 2nd Endurance, 2nd Autocross and 2nd Design. Making our electric vehicle the most efficient in Australasia for 2 years running.
Our team currently consists of around 25 students who study at UTS, from the various disciplines of engineering as well as business and science. We are supported by the Faculty of Engineering and IT, with experienced faculty members appointed to provide guidance through the project. Although the competition is primarily focused on engineering, UTS: Motorsports Electric is open to students from all faculties who have an interest in the project.
