UTS Motorsports Team

UTS Motorsports was established in 1999 and represents the University of Technology, Sydney in the Formula SAE Australasia competition.

Since 1999, UTS Motorsports has competed six times (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010). We are currently the top placed team in Sydney and seeking podium finishes across the board in 2011.

The team consists of about 15 students who study at UTS, from the various disciplines of engineering as well as industrial design, business and even nursing. Furthermore, the team is supported by several academics that assist the students with issues they may encounter.

The FSAE Competition

Formula SAE is an international design competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers which requires university students to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with small, formula-style, open-wheeled race cars. The event was first established in the United States over 20 years ago and is now run in Australia, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Japan and the UK.

The Australasian event, jointly sponsored by Ford, Holden, Toyota and Mitsubishi, takes place annually attracting major universities from around Australia, as well as international teams from the USA, Europe and Asia. The event, hosted by Victoria University, takes place in December at the Werribee vehicle testing facility, Victoria. Over 3 days, teams compete in events judged on engineering design, solo vehicle trials and high performance track endurance, pushing each car to its limits.
